McLaren has publicly expressed regret to their drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, following their disqualification from the Las Vegas Grand Prix. The team finished in second and fourth place in the race but faced scrutiny from race officials due to potential issues with the minimum width of the rearmost skid on their cars.

In a statement released by McLaren’s team principal, Andrea Stella, it was revealed that the team breached Article 3.5.9 of the Technical Regulations, which mandates a minimum skid thickness of 9mm. Car 4 exceeded the limit by 0.12mm, and Car 81 by 0.26mm.

Both cars encountered unexpected high levels of porpoising during the race, leading to excessive contact with the ground. McLaren is investigating the reasons behind this behavior, including accidental damage that was discovered post-race, causing increased floor movement.

The team clarified that the breach was unintentional, with no deliberate intent to violate regulations, and cited mitigating circumstances. McLaren apologized to Norris and Piastri for the loss of points at a crucial stage in their Championship campaigns, acknowledging the support of partners and fans.

Despite the setback, McLaren remains focused on the remaining two races of the season. The disqualification has reignited the competition in the Drivers’ World Championship, with Norris leading the standings with 390 points, followed by Piastri. Max Verstappen’s victory at the Las Vegas Grand Prix has propelled him into contention for the title, setting the stage for an exciting conclusion to the season.

Both Norris and Piastri expressed disappointment over their disqualification, setting the stage for a fiercely contested finale in Qatar and Abu Dhabi. The outcome of the championship remains uncertain, with all eyes on the upcoming races to determine the ultimate victor. Verstappen acknowledged the challenge ahead but remained determined to compete for victories in the remaining events.

Looking ahead to the season finale, anticipation is high for a thrilling conclusion, with last year’s winners Verstappen and Norris poised for a dramatic showdown. The upcoming races promise to deliver excitement and intrigue as the battle for the championship intensifies.
