Mercedes’ head of communications has revealed that the team’s principal, Toto Wolff, has been in communication with former driver Lewis Hamilton to provide support during a challenging season at Ferrari. The seven-time world champion has faced difficulties adapting to the team, dealing with an underperforming car and questionable race strategies.

Hamilton’s struggles were evident in the recent Qatar Grand Prix where he failed to advance past Q1 in qualifying and finished outside the points in 12th place despite a comeback effort during the race. Currently, Hamilton is in sixth place in the drivers’ standings and risks dropping to seventh after the final race in Abu Dhabi.

Expressing frustration over his debut season at Ferrari, Hamilton described 2025 as his “worst season ever,” despite giving his all on and off the track. Mercedes has extended personal support to Hamilton during this challenging period, with the team’s chief communications officer, Bradley Lord, confirming discussions to assist Hamilton and even mentioning Wolff accompanying him to race destinations for support.

In an interview with CHAMP1, Lord emphasized the team’s empathy for Hamilton’s situation, recognizing his dedication and effort in trying to overcome his struggles. While acknowledging the tough phase Hamilton is going through, Lord expressed confidence in Hamilton’s potential to bounce back stronger in the future.

As Hamilton prepares for the final race in Abu Dhabi to maintain his sixth-place position in the drivers’ standings, the focus is on ending the season on a positive note before looking ahead to 2026. This race will mark Hamilton’s last drive in the current Ferrari model, known for its challenges.

Despite the setbacks, Ferrari’s team principal, Fred Vasseur, has urged the team to remain focused on improvement and learning from mistakes to strive for better performances. The team is determined to end the season positively and shift their attention towards the upcoming 2026 campaign.
