McDonald’s enthusiasts are expressing outrage following a social media post that revealed the price of a hash brown nearing £2 at select restaurants.

The viral post showcases a snapshot of a McDonald’s menu board displaying a £1.99 price tag for a single hash brown at the particular outlet visited by the individual.

The post, garnering over 459,000 views, was accompanied by a comment stating, “£2 for a solitary hash brown. We are officially finished.”

Reactions flooded in with one person commenting, “It’s becoming absurd, I rarely visit but it used to be a budget-friendly choice.” Another remarked, “For that price, you could get a sausage sandwich.” A third simply stated, “Crazy.”

Another individual chimed in, saying, “Those hash browns are the best thing they’ve ever made. However, £2 is just too much.” While someone else reminisced, “I remember when they were priced at 59p.”

Responding to the price concerns, a McDonald’s spokesperson clarified, “Many of our restaurants are franchise-owned, allowing them to determine their pricing. Despite variations in prices, all remain committed to delivering high-quality service and value to customers.”

This follows McDonald’s announcement of an upcoming increase in the points required to redeem free food through MyMcDonald’s Rewards. Currently, 5,500 points are needed for popular items like a Big Mac, Double Fillet of Fish, Double Sausage and Egg McMuffin, and Nine Chicken Nuggets. However, starting March 17, the redemption threshold will rise to 6,500 points. Customers earn 100 points for every £1 spent at McDonald’s.

To receive items like a Medium Coffee or Small Fries, the points requirement will elevate from 1,500 to 2,000 points. Similarly, the point threshold for a regular McFlurry or an Apple Pie will rise from 2,500 to 3,500 points. For a Double Cheeseburger or a McChicken sandwich, customers will now need 5,000 points, up from 4,000 points.

A McDonald’s spokesperson informed The Sun that the loyalty scheme adjustments are a response to escalating food and supply costs. While the points needed across all tiers have been raised, the company has introduced fan-favorite options such as Chicken Selects, Cheese sides, and the new Sausage Sandwich for redemption, expanding choices for customers.
