Shocking new video footage captures the evacuation of passengers from a Boeing aircraft after its tires unexpectedly burst upon landing. Emergency responders swiftly arrived at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Georgia, US, on Tuesday evening following the intense incident involving a LATAM Airlines flight from Peru. Images depicted the Boeing 767-300ER surrounded by fire trucks post-landing, with an ongoing inquiry to determine the cause of the tire blowout.
A loud banging sound echoed through the aircraft as it landed, followed by severe shaking inside the cabin. Some passengers expressed feeling “thankful” for surviving the ordeal. Liza Karseno, a passenger, recounted, “We were landing smoothly. Then it felt like the wheels had burst. I was just grateful to be safe, not bothered about belongings, just relieved that everyone made it out unharmed.”
Concerns arose about the plane’s ability to stop as it approached high speeds. Passengers onboard captured images of tires ripped off the landing gear, along with reports of damage to the bathroom door upon impact. The overhead baggage compartments also flew open during the turbulent landing.
Firefighters successfully evacuated all passengers without any injuries reported. The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department responded to the incident, addressing the flat tires on the aircraft. The Boeing 767-300ER, a popular twin-jet plane used by LATAM Peru for long-distance trips between Lima and Atlanta, accommodates up to 221 passengers along with crew members. The airline has been contacted for comment by Mirror.
In a separate incident last August, a British holidaymaker recounted a similar terrifying experience when a plane’s tire exploded during takeoff. Kris Sadler, returning from Corfu to Birmingham on a TUI flight with family, described the nerve-wracking moments and the crew’s instructions for passengers to brace themselves for a safe landing. The pilot skillfully managed the emergency situation, ensuring the aircraft’s safety despite losing a tire.
The chances of a plane tire blowing are rare, with Sadler acknowledging the statistical improbability but expressing gratitude for the safe outcome of the incident.
