Sky has introduced two new smart home packages in the UK that rival popular home security devices like Ring doorbells and Google’s Nest system. These plans include internet-connected cameras and cloud recordings starting at just £5 per month, offering significant cost savings compared to purchasing a Ring system through Amazon.
The first option, priced at £5 per month with a £15 upfront fee, features a Sky Smart Doorbell and Chime. It provides full HD video recording, instant phone alerts, customisable activity zones, two-way talk capability, and 30 days of cloud video storage.
For enhanced security, customers can opt for the Smart Home Bundle with Smart Home Plan+ at £8 per month with a £20 upfront fee. This package includes an indoor camera and additional app features like scheduled arming and automatic arm modes.
According to Paul Sweeney, Managing Director of Sky Smart Home, the goal is to offer high-quality smart technology that is user-friendly, manageable, and affordable to ensure seamless connectivity with home surroundings.
These new plans aim to broaden the availability of Sky’s home security products. Previously, the company primarily offered Protect Smart Home Insurance bundled with cameras and alarms. With the latest packages, Sky Smart Home products can now be purchased independently for the first time.
In comparison, Amazon sells the Ring Doorbell with Chime for £119.99, discounted by £20. Customers seeking cloud recording access would also require a Ring Protect subscription starting at £4.99 per month.
