Sky Q, a renowned set-top box, is highly acclaimed for its diverse features, including live TV recording, access to premium channels, on-demand content, and popular streaming apps like Disney+ and Netflix. Despite its widespread popularity, Sky is shifting its focus from the satellite-based platform to internet-centric products such as the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV, potentially paving the way for new competitors in the market.

Humax has introduced the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder, a device that closely mirrors the functionalities of Sky Q. Equipped with a 2TB built-in hard drive for extensive storage of TV programs, movies, and sports, the Aura EZ stands out in an era where physical recording options are diminishing.

Notably, the Aura EZ utilizes Freely technology, enabling users to watch live TV via broadband. Powered by the developers of Freeview, Freely offers over 60 live channels and a vast library of on-demand content. This feature facilitates easy relocation of the box, simple installation, and regular feature enhancements.

The device boasts 4K HDR picture quality, Dolby Digital Plus audio, and an integrated TV guide showcasing current and upcoming programs. Users can manage the Aura EZ remotely through the Humax Aura EZ smartphone app, providing convenient access to schedules and recording management from any location.

While Freely lacks premium sports and movie offerings like Sky, it is a subscription-free service, offering cost-effective viewing options. The Humax Aura EZ is scheduled for release in the UK in February 2026, priced at £249.

In a related development, Sky has announced a new subscription bundle that amalgamates major streaming services at a reduced monthly rate. For £24 per month, customers gain access to Disney+, Netflix, Hayu, and the upcoming HBO Max service. This bundle is designed to offer value by consolidating multiple streaming platforms under a single subscription. Additionally, subscribers to the Ultimate TV plan will enjoy over 130 premium channels, including Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, and Sky History.

Moreover, Sky Cinema customers will benefit from a new Disney movie channel integrated into the TV guide. The £24 bundle encompasses Netflix Standard with Ads, Disney+ Standard with Ads (from March), HBO Max Basic with Ads (from March 26), Hayu (available from July, with select content accessible from March), and over 130 Sky channels.
