Keir Starmer responded to Donald Trump’s recent criticism of London by highlighting that the comments made about the city are not reflective of reality. Speaking at the Global Progress Action summit to international delegates, Starmer emphasized that London is not the chaotic “wasteland” portrayed by some. Trump’s earlier claims that London had undergone drastic changes and was heading towards Sharia law were found to be inaccurate. Similarly, Nigel Farage had previously suggested that it was unsafe to walk in London’s West End wearing jewelry at night.

Addressing the summit attendees, Starmer invited them to enjoy the offerings of London, such as breakfast outings, pub visits, and relaxing in the city’s beautiful parks. He noted the discrepancy between the negative portrayals of cities and the actual experiences people have. Starmer pointed out that misinformation and exaggerations often create false perceptions, leading to a distorted view of reality.

Trump’s recent remarks at the UN General Assembly criticizing London’s mayor and falsely claiming rising crime rates were met with criticism. Starmer also condemned the spread of fear and misinformation by political figures like Farage, highlighting the need to challenge divisive narratives and promote a more accurate understanding of cities and communities.

In his speech, Starmer denounced the dangerous ideology of a looming violent national conflict, citing recent events in London as examples. He warned against the divisive tactics used to create a sense of “us versus them” mentality, emphasizing the importance of unity and understanding among diverse communities.

The Prime Minister’s deliberate use of divisive language was described by Starmer as part of a calculated strategy to create a rift between different segments of society. This intentional division, according to Starmer, aims to sow discord and distrust among the population, rather than fostering unity and cooperation for the common good.
