Tesco is set to distribute numerous free Christmas trees for a single day only. These “wonky” Christmas trees, characterized by imperfections like unevenly spaced branches or a slight lean, would typically not be available for sale. However, Tesco plans to offer them at no cost on Saturday, December 6, in selected stores. Interested individuals are encouraged to consider making a donation to the food charities Fareshare and Trussell upon receiving a tree.
The free trees will be up for grabs at various Tesco locations, including Colney Hatch Extra, Borehamwood Extra, Hammersmith, Southport Extra, Goole Superstore, Glossop Superstore, Bristol Brislington Extra, Cardiff Extra, Dundee Riverside Extra, and Glasgow Maryhill Extra. Distribution will commence at 10 am on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limit of one tree per household. In comparison, the cheapest Christmas trees available elsewhere cost £13.99 at Aldi and £14.99 at Home Bargains.
Ashwin Prasad, Tesco’s UK CEO, emphasized the value of finding joy in imperfect moments during the holiday season. According to Prasad, these slightly flawed trees, though “wonky,” can still bring charm to any home with a touch of love and strategic ornament placement. The initiative aligns with a recent Tesco survey revealing that many Britons do not consider Christmas perfection necessary to make the season special.
In a related promotion, Tesco is offering Clubcard members two points for every £1 spent on gift cards throughout December, applicable to all third-party gift card purchases at Tesco stores. Double points will be automatically credited to Clubcard accounts, benefiting the approximately 24 million Tesco Clubcard members. Points accumulation is also available for various other purchases, such as groceries, fuel, Tesco Mobile services, and Tesco credit card transactions, with 150 points translating to a £1.50 voucher for Tesco spending.
