The mother of a 12-year-old girl who tragically passed away while attempting dangerous stunts for social media has shared her heartbreaking story of pleading with her daughter to stop, only for the girl to sneak out at night to film another risky video.

Zemfira Mukhtarov, a young girl from Brooklyn, lost her life in a subway surfing incident after posting alarming videos on TikTok, including one where she lay on train tracks, in the days leading up to the fatal accident.

Despite her parents’ desperate pleas for her to cease these risky behaviors, Zemfira remained fixated on performing daring acts for social media, leading to her untimely death near the Marcy Avenue-Broadway station in Brooklyn.

Her mother, Ms. Rudenko, returned home from work to discover that her adventurous daughter had left the house in the early hours of the morning, along with a 13-year-old friend from Manhattan, Ebba Morina, who was also found unconscious near the Williamsburg station and later pronounced dead.

Zemfira had developed an obsession with various stunts, including subway antics, exploring abandoned properties, and scaling tall buildings, often sharing these exploits online.

Ms. Rudenko expressed her lack of knowledge about the companion her daughter was with, speculating that the two likely met online. Authorities reported that multiple young individuals were present inside the train before the tragic incident occurred.

In the wake of this devastating event, Zemfira’s father initiated a fundraising campaign to cover his daughter’s funeral expenses, with a substantial amount already raised.

City officials are issuing warnings to teenagers and young people against engaging in subway surfing, a trend that has claimed lives in recent years, fueled in part by social media influence.

This incident follows a similar tragedy involving an 11-year-old British boy who passed away due to a dangerous social media challenge known as ‘chroming,’ prompting his family to advocate for increased protection for children online.

Chroming, a hazardous practice involving inhaling toxic substances, can lead to severe health complications, including cardiac arrest, highlighting the importance of monitoring and regulating online content to safeguard vulnerable individuals.

A spokesperson from TikTok responded to concerns regarding the platform’s role in promoting such challenges, stating that there is no indication of chroming being a specific trend on TikTok or gaining traction among users.
