Tragedy struck at a water park in Itupeva, Brazil, as a young lifeguard lost his life while attempting a rescue mission, as confirmed by local authorities.

The victim, identified as Guilherme da Guerra Domingos, 24, encountered a fatal accident at Wet’n Wild water park. Reports indicate that while trying to retrieve a visitor’s lost ring from a pool, he got ensnared in the pool’s drainage system and tragically drowned.

The distressing incident unfolded at an attraction known as Water Bomb, where Guilherme’s colleagues raised an alarm upon his prolonged absence from the surface. Swift action was taken by fellow lifeguards who rescued him from the water, initiated emergency aid, and summoned medical assistance from the local health department.

Despite efforts to save him, Guilherme was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to Nossa Senhora Aparecida Municipal Hospital, as reported by Sorocaba e Jundiaí. Wet’n Wild disclosed that Guilherme had been a dedicated employee for over two years and had recently been promoted to a leadership position within the park.

The water park management clarified that the Water Bomb attraction does not feature a bottom drain. They further explained that the hydraulic system is designed with side drains positioned away from the water slide exit and visitor departure points.

Authorities confirmed that the park is compliant with all necessary regulations, stating, “Occupancy permits for each attraction have been obtained and are valid, along with the Fire Department Inspection Certificate (AVCB) that remains in force.” The park remains closed as a mark of respect.

Expressing solidarity with Guilherme’s family, Wet’n Wild assured full cooperation with ongoing investigations and pledged support to the authorities during the inquiry process.

Following necessary procedures, Guilherme’s body was transferred to the Forensic Medical Institute in Jundiaí and later laid to rest in Bragança Paulista.
