President Donald Trump has announced that the initial phase of his 20-point peace plan to end the conflict in Gaza is expected to be completed this week. Trump urged all parties involved to expedite the process.
Earlier, Trump introduced the “Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict,” comprising 20 points that include the release of Israeli captives.
Hamas has shown willingness to engage in negotiations by accepting some aspects of the peace framework, such as freeing hostages and transitioning Gaza’s administration to Palestinian technocrats. However, the group seeks further discussions on certain issues.
Trump, posting on his Truth Social platform, stated that progress has been made in discussions with Hamas and various countries worldwide. He emphasized the importance of achieving peace in the Middle East swiftly.
Despite the positive steps, Hamas has not addressed demands related to disarmament and its governance in Gaza. Trump mentioned that while most parties have agreed to the plan, some adjustments may be necessary.
Hamas has agreed to transfer control of Gaza to an independent body of Palestinian leaders, citing support from the Palestinian and Arab communities.
The group emphasized that the resolution of issues outlined in Trump’s proposal regarding Gaza’s future and the rights of Palestinians is contingent on a unified national position and adherence to international laws and resolutions.
Trump declared that Hamas is prepared for lasting peace and called on Israel to cease its bombing of Gaza. However, Israeli airstrikes resulted in significant casualties, with at least 66 deaths and 250 injuries reported within a day.
The Committee to Protect Journalists reported that over 200 journalists and media workers have died in Gaza since October 7. Israel has restricted independent journalists from entering Gaza to verify these claims.
