At least an additional 10,000 vehicles have been recalled in the UK due to serious safety concerns, prompting authorities to advise against driving them. Initially, a “stop drive” directive was issued for specific Citroen and DS vehicles in June, but now, parent company Stellantis has expanded the list of unsafe cars.
The recall pertains to potential faults in the Takata airbag systems found in these vehicles. This precautionary measure follows a tragic incident in Reims, France, where a woman lost her life due to an airbag malfunction in a 2014 Citroen C3. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported in the UK.
If your vehicle is affected, Stellantis will contact you by mail to arrange for a free repair. The company anticipates resolving most affected vehicles by early October. You can verify if your car is part of the recall by using the VIN check tool on the Citroen website.
Stellantis emphasized its commitment to swiftly and responsibly addressing the issue, mobilizing its network to ensure customer safety. A recall notice highlighted that the decision to issue a stop-drive order across Europe, including the UK, was made to prioritize customer safety despite no reported incidents in the UK.
Affected customers will receive notification by mail and can check the Citroën UK website for guidance on necessary actions. If impacted, owners should register their vehicle promptly for repair processing. Alternatively, they can contact the Recall Helpline for assistance at 0800 917 9285.
