As a migrant care worker, I provide compassionate assistance to your elderly relatives and loved ones. I offer support during moments of fear, hold trembling hands, and bring solace in the quiet of night. My goal is to help them regain their independence and humanity through simple acts of care and kindness.

Each day, I dedicate myself to those I care for, striving to bring dignity and love to their lives. I take pride in my work, not simply as a job but as an integral part of who I am. Having come to the UK seeking safety and a fresh start, I found purpose and respect in caring for others.

Despite my dedication and contributions, I sometimes feel unseen by the country I serve. Working tirelessly, paying taxes, and giving my all, I am disheartened by the labels of “burden” or “stranger” that are sometimes placed on caregivers like me.

I start my days before sunrise, ensuring the comfort and safety of those in my care, often going beyond my scheduled hours to support families. The vital roles we fill in care homes and hospitals keep essential services running smoothly and families together.

The proposal of a 15-year waiting period for Indefinite Leave to Remain weighs heavily on my heart. After years of service, sacrifice, and commitment, being told that I do not yet belong is deeply hurtful. We, as migrant care workers, seek fairness and humanity, not special treatment or accolades.

We are not looking to take, but rather to give back to the community that we serve with dedication and compassion. All we ask for is stability, respect, and the opportunity to build a future without prolonged uncertainty and waiting.

From the depths of my being, I implore the UK to recognize and appreciate the contributions of migrant care workers. We are here to give and support, hoping one day for the same care and consideration in return.
