Ahead of the upcoming Qatar Grand Prix weekend, Max Verstappen pointed out McLaren’s mistakes as the key factor enabling him to remain competitive in the Formula 1 title race. McLaren’s recent errors not only kept Verstappen in the running but also provided him a genuine opportunity to challenge a British driver in the final stages.

Verstappen’s first F1 championship victory came in a dramatic fashion by overtaking Lewis Hamilton on the last lap of the controversial 2021 Abu Dhabi race. Currently, he trails Lando Norris by just 12 points in his pursuit of a fifth consecutive championship title.

Oscar Piastri is four points behind Verstappen, setting up a thrilling three-way title battle for the final race, reminiscent of Sebastian Vettel’s remarkable comeback in 2010. Verstappen acknowledged the significance of the situation and expressed a positive outlook on the upcoming competition.

Notably, McLaren’s repeated failures did not go unnoticed, as Red Bull’s strategy chief joined Verstappen on the podium to collect the constructors’ trophy, subtly highlighting their rivals’ shortcomings. McLaren’s team principal and chief executive opted not to comment initially, but later emphasized that Norris would not receive preferential treatment despite the increased pressure from Verstappen.

Piastri acknowledged the challenging circumstances, recognizing that his chances of winning the championship had decreased significantly. Despite his disappointment, he remains focused on delivering a strong performance in the upcoming race.

Even if Piastri manages to win, Norris only needs to finish on the podium to secure the world championship, barring any unforeseen incidents like mechanical failures or crashes. The recent race results have set the stage for a thrilling conclusion to the season, with every point crucial in determining the final outcome.

Verstappen’s race engineer hinted at possible strategic maneuvers during the race, sparking controversy among team representatives. However, McLaren and other teams dismissed the speculations, emphasizing their commitment to fair competition and denying any interference in the driver championship battle.
