The company has launched an unexpected sale on its ultra-fast Gig1 Fibre Broadband, reducing the monthly cost from £29.99 to £26.99. This discount amounts to a total saving of £72 over the 24-month contract, translating to approximately 87p per day.
According to Virgin, this current promotion represents the lowest price ever offered for its Gig1 plan. With speeds reaching up to 1,130Mbps, users can download a feature-length HD film in under 30 seconds and have a 50GB PS5 game ready to play in less than seven minutes.
While these speeds provide swift connectivity for streaming and online gaming, Virgin has disclosed that the discounted rate of £26.99 will increase twice during the contract period, reaching £30.99 from April 2027 and £34.99 from April 2028. Additionally, the 1,130Mbps speeds may not be available in all UK locations, so potential customers are advised to verify availability using Virgin’s postcode checker.
Compared to competitors like Sky and BT, Virgin’s £26.99 Gig1 deal offers a compelling value proposition. Even with Sky reducing its comparable 900Mbps plan to £28, it remains pricier than Virgin while delivering slower speeds. BT’s 900Mbps connection, on the other hand, comes at a higher cost of £37.99. Consumers may also want to explore alternative network providers, as several emerging providers, known as alt-nets, are undercutting major brands on pricing.
For those not requiring ultra-high speeds, it’s essential to consider individual needs before committing to a broadband plan. A couple streaming Netflix in the evenings may find 100Mbps sufficient, while larger households engaged in remote work, downloading content, and online gaming might benefit from speeds of at least 300Mbps.
