According to SpeedGo, a new broadband speed-testing service, Virgin Media leads the UK in average download speeds, reaching an impressive 256.5Mbps. This speed enables the download of a full HD movie in just over two minutes, significantly faster than the national average. Following Virgin Media, Vodafone ranks second with average download speeds of 175Mbps, and BT (EE) comes in third place. On the other end of the spectrum, TalkTalk lags behind with an average speed of under 95Mbps.
The rankings for average download speeds in the UK are as follows:

– Vodafone: 175.1Mbps
– BT (EE): 122.5Mbps
– Sky Broadband: 113.6Mbps
– TalkTalk: 94.7Mbps
In addition to download speeds, SpeedGo also assessed upload speeds, crucial for users who frequently send large files or work remotely. Vodafone excelled in this category, boasting an average upload speed of 83.6Mbps, surpassing Virgin Media, which secured the second position with 47.2Mbps.
SpeedGo affirmed these results, highlighting that in 2025, Virgin Media provided the fastest broadband internet in the United Kingdom, with an average download speed of 256.5Mbps. Vodafone led in average upload speed at 83.6Mbps.
