Vodafone introduces a new method to connect to the internet. Instead of using traditional copper or fiber cables, Vodafone’s latest Wi-Fi router operates by downloading content and streaming videos through a 5G mobile signal.
This innovative approach caters to households that lack access to high-speed fiber connections or for individuals seeking portability. The device’s mobility is advantageous for renters or students who frequently change residences.
Ease of installation is another highlight of this new system. Since it relies on Vodafone’s network, there is no requirement for a technician to visit or perform wall installations. Users can simply plug the router into a power source, turn it on, and immediately access the internet.
It’s important to note that this system provides speeds of up to 150Mbps, suitable for activities like streaming Netflix, sending emails, and remote work. However, it falls short of full fiber connections that can exceed 900Mbps in speed.
For comparison, downloading a full HD movie using the 5G router takes around 8 minutes, while a gigabit fiber connection accomplishes the same task in just 40 seconds.
To assist consumers in making informed decisions, Vodafone has launched an integrated availability checker on their website. This tool helps users determine whether full fiber or 5G Broadband offers the fastest speeds in their location.
Vodafone had previously offered web access through its GigaCube device, which has now been replaced by this new router.
Rob Winterschladen, Consumer Director at VodafoneThree, emphasized the significance of providing fast and reliable broadband options to households currently experiencing slow and unreliable connections. Vodafone aims to offer an efficient and flexible solution with their 5G Broadband service.
Additionally, it is worth mentioning that Three, now part of Vodafone, also provides a similar service.
Vodafone’s pricing starts at £21 per month, while Three’s home broadband is currently priced at £11 for the initial nine months.
