Millions of Gmail users have received a significant warning regarding Google’s new AI features scanning their emails. The alert, shared by TV personality Lori Greiner on Instagram, urges users to take action to protect their privacy.
Google’s AI capabilities include smart searches, contextual replies, and email summaries, but Greiner raised concerns about the extent of email scanning. She emphasized the importance of addressing this issue promptly.
To disable AI scanning in Gmail, users can follow a simple process. Access the Settings, click on “see all settings,” locate “Smart features,” and turn off smart features in Gmail, Chat, and Meet. Additionally, uncheck boxes for Workspace and other products under “Manage Workspace Smart Features” to restrict AI data usage further.
Google assures users that personal data remains private and secure, stating that AI models are not trained on personal emails. The tech giant emphasizes that Gemini in Gmail processes information securely for specific tasks and does not retain any data.
While Google maintains the security of user data, individuals wary of AI can opt out of smart features in Gmail to enhance their privacy. It is recommended to stay informed about such settings to ensure a secure online experience.
