Today, young survivors of the tragic New Year fire incident in Switzerland delivered heartfelt speeches during an official memorial event, moving French President Emmanuel Macron to tears.

Marie Albrecht, Aline Morisoli, and Solal Heimendinger, who witnessed the devastating event, shared their experiences on stage at the commemoration held at the “Le Régent” convention center in Martigny, Switzerland. The ceremony was attended by approximately 1,000 individuals, including families of the deceased, first responders, and dignitaries.

This event marked a national day of mourning in Switzerland, coming nine days after a fire at Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana claimed the lives of 40 individuals, including 20 children, and left 116 others injured. Among the deceased were teenagers as young as 14 and siblings in their teenage years.

Reflecting on the tragedy, Marie Albrecht expressed, “The evening started as a casual visit to the bar for a final drink, only to turn into a horrifying nightmare. The scenes we witnessed were beyond comprehension.”

“The chaos outside was worse than any nightmare, filled with piercing screams in the frigid air and the overpowering stench of burning.”

Aline Morisoli emphasized the resilience of their generation, navigating through a challenging and uncertain world. She stated, “Despite the adversities, we persevere and fight for our beliefs.”

She continued, “There is much to mend and aspire for – envisioning a transformed world. Witnessing the determination of young individuals in the fight, we stand proud. Let us not falter.”

Solal Heimendinger expressed gratitude towards the emergency services and medical staff, acknowledging the applause given to the responders. Despite snowy conditions, hundreds gathered at Place du Scandia in Crans-Montana to watch the service broadcast live, observing a moment of silence in honor of the victims.

During the service, Valais State Council President Mathias Reynard addressed the attendees, acknowledging the tragic turn of events and the loss of lives. He reassured the families of the victims of ongoing support and a commitment to a thorough investigation.

Federal President Guy Parmelin extended condolences to the mourning families and highlighted the unity of Switzerland in remembrance of the departed. He underscored that the victims, now shining in memories, will not be forgotten.

Following the tragic incident, the bar owners, Jacques Moretti and Jessica Moretti, faced legal proceedings over charges of negligence leading to manslaughter, bodily harm, and arson. The investigation revealed the possible cause of the fire starting in the bar’s basement due to improper handling of champagne bottles.

The community mourned the loss of lives from diverse nationalities, with seven individuals belonging to the same football club in Lutry, a town along Lake Geneva. The investigation will scrutinize the responsibilities of both the bar owners and the authorities concerning fire safety inspections.</
