A power outage on the Disneyland Monorail led to a large-scale evacuation, requiring individuals to disembark from the tracks. Approximately 60 passengers were evacuated near the Space Mountain ride as the monorail came to a stop. Emergency responders from the Anaheim police utilized ladders to safely assist the passengers off the monorail, resulting in no injuries.
The Anaheim Fire Department positioned a fire engine beneath the monorail track, extending its ladder to aid in guiding passengers to safety along the narrow walkway. Disneyland Resorts’ spokesperson confirmed that the monorail encountered a power loss on Thursday afternoon, affecting two trains. By 7 pm, all riders had been successfully evacuated. A visitor stuck on the monorail reported the power failure occurring around 3:30 pm.
Operating on a 2.5-mile elevated track above the park, the Disneyland monorail offers a scenic route every 10 minutes, passing by key attractions such as Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Hollywood Land, the Grand Californian Hotel, and the Downtown Disney District.
According to the Disneyland website, the monorail stands as an iconic transportation system in America, blending classic 1959 styling with modern technologies for a retro-futuristic appearance. The current system features the Red, Blue, and Orange Mark VII trains, running on a 600-volt DC power source to minimize environmental impact.
Initially an attraction, the Disneyland monorail transformed into a functional transportation system by 1961, shuttling guests to and from the Disneyland Hotel. Following multiple updates, the park introduced its current line of train cars between 2008 and 2009.
In a similar incident, a malfunction occurred with the Monorail Silver at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, in November 2025. An electrical issue near the Grand Floridian Resort caused smoke between two train cabins, prompting fire crews to respond swiftly, extinguish the flames, and evacuate passengers. The disruption led to temporary transportation adjustments, with guests utilizing buses, boats, and ferries.
