A shooting incident involving a United States Border Patrol agent near the Mexico border has left a person critically injured and fighting for their life. The FBI is investigating the alleged assault on a federal officer near Arivaca, Arizona, a region known for illegal border crossings by both drug smugglers and migrants.

The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was shot in southern Pima County close to milepost 15 of West Arivaca Road early this morning. The Santa Rita Fire District responded to the scene, providing immediate medical assistance before transferring the wounded individual to a nearby trauma center via a medical helicopter.

Details surrounding the shooting are still unclear, with authorities withholding information about both the injured person and the suspect involved. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is spearheading the investigation at the FBI’s request.

While the investigation unfolds, the PCSD has urged the community to remain patient and cooperative. This incident adds to a series of recent shootings involving immigration officers linked to the Department of Homeland Security, prompting criticism from House Democrats who have accused the Trump administration of misusing taxpayer funds for lethal purposes.

President Trump has responded to these accusations, stating that there are no immediate plans to dismiss Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. Instead, efforts are being made to address the situation through diplomatic channels, with Trump dispatching his border czar to engage with local authorities in Minneapolis.
