Samsung has introduced its latest lineup of innovative foldable phones, potentially posing a challenge for Apple. The tech giant from Korea revealed three new devices, led by the redesigned Galaxy Z Fold 8.
Unlike previous Fold versions, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 features a different design with a shorter and wider “passport-style” appearance. This unique design provides a more practical form factor when unfolded, offering a 7.6-inch display that resembles a compact tablet, ideal for various activities like streaming, binge-watching, and gaming on the move.
The launch is significant as Apple is anticipated to launch its first foldable iPhone soon, with rumors suggesting a similar design approach. Samsung’s early adoption of this design could give it an edge over its rival.
Moreover, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 boasts being Samsung’s thinnest and lightest Fold model yet, weighing only 180g. It also includes an enhanced hinge for improved durability and longevity. The device features Vision Booster technology and an anti-reflective coating on the larger display for better visibility, especially in bright sunlight.
Powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and a 4,800mAh battery that charges rapidly, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 offers advanced performance capabilities. Additionally, the device comes equipped with a dual-camera system, Gorilla Glass protection, and Samsung’s latest Galaxy AI tools for smarter functionality.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is priced starting at £1,699 and is open for pre-orders. In comparison, Apple’s rumored foldable iPhone is expected to arrive later with a potentially higher price tag exceeding £2,000.
Samsung also introduced the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, building on the previous model with upgraded features like the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip and an advanced camera system. The device offers a 200MP main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 10MP telephoto camera, promising enhanced photography and 8K video capabilities. The Fold 8 Ultra is reinforced with a Flex Titanium hinge for greater strength and a refined display structure.
With a larger 5,000mAh battery and rapid charging capabilities, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra starts at a price of £1,899.
Completing the lineup is the Galaxy Z Flip 8, maintaining the popular clamshell design but now thinner and lighter. Samsung has improved the external cover display and overall performance, including enhancements to the hinge, speed, and camera features.
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is priced from £1,149, offering consumers a variety of options to choose from in Samsung’s latest foldable phone collection.
