In a recent development, court documents reveal that the four individuals implicated in a probe involving the manufacturing of explosives and firearms in London, Ontario, are now facing 19 additional charges. Initially charged in January, Jerry Tong, Zekun (Alex) Wang, Fei (Frank) Han, and Feiyang (Astrid) Ji, who were either students or recent graduates of Western University, have seen the total count of charges rise to 31.
The new charges encompass various offenses, including the possession of specific explosive materials, possession of stolen property, and unauthorized access to computer data associated with firearm production. These charges range from joint counts against all four individuals to specific allegations against each accused.
The investigation traces back to an incident on Jan. 24 when law enforcement responded to a trespassing incident at Western University, leading to the arrest of one person outside an engineering building. Subsequent inquiries led the authorities to a residence in the University Heights neighborhood, where the remaining three suspects were apprehended.
Further scrutiny by the police included a thorough search of the residence at 212 Chesham Place, where Wang, Han, and Ji resided, along with two other properties in Orléans, Ottawa, and Gatineau, Quebec.
Regarding firearms-related charges, Tong, Wang, and Ji are now facing additional counts such as possession of firearm accessories, prohibited firearm possession, and improper storage of firearms. Tong, in particular, faces charges related to activities in other cities, like storing rifles in Orléans, manufacturing a prohibited firearm in Ottawa, and possessing a rifle at an unauthorized location in Quebec.
Moreover, Wang is accused of manufacturing a weapon between September 2025 and January 2026, while both Wang and Tong are charged with breaking into a Western building in October 2025.
The accused are also facing new charges related to the possession of explosive substances, including pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), trinitrotoluene (TNT), dinitrophenol (DNP), hexamethylene triperoxide diamine (HMTD), and lead azide. Additionally, they are charged with possessing property belonging to Western University valued at less than $5,000.
As the legal proceedings continue, Tong faces 28 charges, Wang faces 20, Han faces 11, and Ji faces 13. Two of the accused are currently out on bail, while the other two remain in custody. Tong did not seek bail, Han was denied bail, and Wang and Ji were granted bail under strict conditions.
The case remains ongoing as the accused navigate through the judicial process.
