“Canadian Swimmers Shine at Pan Pacific Championships”

Canadian swimmers Taylor Ruck and Summer McIntosh had contrasting performances at the Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine, California. Ruck secured silver in the women’s 100m butterfly and later claimed bronze as part of the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay team, marking her fourth and fifth medals of the competition. In the 100m butterfly, the 26-year-old set a personal best with a time of 56.71 seconds, finishing behind American Gretchen Walsh. Meanwhile, McIntosh, the 19-year-old world-record holder, expressed disappointment after failing to qualify for the A final in the women’s 400m freestyle event due to a morning misjudgment. She acknowledged her error and vowed to learn from the experience. McIntosh rebounded with a silver in the women’s 200m freestyle and a gold in the 400m individual medley. The Canadian men’s team also shined, with Blake Tierney and Ethan Ekk securing silver and bronze, respectively, in the men’s 200m backstroke. Tierney highlighted the significance of both Canadians being on the podium. Additionally, Ruck led the Canadian women to a bronze in the 4x100m freestyle relay event, while the men narrowly missed a podium spot in the same event.
