A golfer from Saskatchewan achieved his first-ever hole-in-one while competing at the National Special Olympics. Taylor Carter, residing in Regina, has been a part of the Special Olympics team since 2013, with a lifelong passion for golf since the age of four. The remarkable moment occurred at the Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club during the competition, leaving a lasting impact on Carter.
Taylor expressed his disbelief and emotional reaction to the achievement, stating that watching the video of the shot brings tears to his eyes every time. His nephew, Ashton Carter, served as his caddy during the tournament, supporting him through the rounds.
The pivotal moment happened on the 16th hole, measuring 135 yards. Opting for a nine-iron, Taylor confidently took the shot, with Ashton immediately recognizing its quality. Taylor’s brother was the first to acknowledge the hole-in-one, leading to an eruption of joy from his family.
Captured on video, the heartwarming embrace between Taylor and his best friend, Jason, added to the special nature of the accomplishment. Taylor expressed gratitude for having his best friend present during the event, emphasizing the significance of their bond.
Despite experiencing a spike in heart rate due to the excitement, Taylor remained focused to complete the round successfully. His total score of 162 over three rounds secured him the gold medal in his division by a margin of two strokes.
Reflecting on the experience, Ashton praised the confidence and authenticity of all the athletes, highlighting the positive impact it had on his own self-assurance.
