Nicky Henderson remains calm and confident ahead of the upcoming showdown between Constitution Hill and rising star The New Lion this Saturday. Constitution Hill, previously undefeated in ten races, faced setbacks last season, falling as the favorite in the Champion Hurdle and at Aintree, followed by a disappointing finish at Punchestown.

Henderson shared that Constitution Hill underwent thorough evaluations, including a visit to an equine eye specialist, to ensure his readiness for future races. Currently, he is the third favorite at 5-1 for the next Champion Hurdle, trailing behind Willie Mullins’ mare Lossiemouth and The New Lion, his anticipated rival at the BetMGM Fighting Fifth Hurdle in Newcastle.

The highly anticipated clash between Constitution Hill and The New Lion will be a significant test for both horses, with additional contenders like Anzadam and Golden Ace in the mix. Betting odds from Coral show equal chances for Constitution Hill and The New Lion at 11-8, with Anzadam at 3-1, Golden Ace at 20-1, and Nemean Lion at 33-1.

Henderson expressed his confidence in Constitution Hill’s preparation, highlighting a successful training session and positive feedback from jockey Nico de Boinville. As the race day approaches, Henderson plans for Constitution Hill to travel to Newcastle accompanied by a companion horse for company.

Despite considering adding a pacemaker, Henderson ultimately decided against it due to specific qualifications required for the race. While Henderson will be present at Newbury for other races, owner Michael Buckley will represent their team at the upcoming event.
