As the Cold Weather Payment scheme kicks off for 2025/26, you could qualify for £25 payments during periods of sub-zero temperatures lasting seven consecutive days.
Multiple Cold Weather Payments are possible if there are several instances of freezing weather in your area throughout the winter season, with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) overseeing the payments.
To be eligible for a Cold Weather Payment, you must be receiving specific benefits, such as Income Support, Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, or Income-related Employment and Support Allowance.
If you fall under these benefit categories, contact Jobcentre Plus to claim your Cold Weather Payment. The scheme will be active until March 31, 2026, and payments are typically deposited into your bank account within 14 working days if you qualify.
Most recipients will receive payments automatically without the need to apply, except for those with a baby or a child under five moving in, who must submit an application.
Check your eligibility for Cold Weather Payments in your area by using the postcode checker on GOV.UK. Note that Cold Weather Payments are not available in Scotland, where they are substituted by the Winter Heating Payment, valued at £59.75.
