A lady who battled a sugar addiction and was on a path to poor health turned her life around by quitting sugar cold turkey, resulting in a significant weight loss of seven stone. Kristy McCammon, formerly indulging in crisps, biscuits, and sweets daily, found her cravings uncontrollable, leading to a cycle of addiction. At her peak weight, she wore a UK size 28 and consumed up to 5,000 calories daily.

Frustrated with her constant fixation on food, Kristy made a bold choice to eliminate refined sugar entirely, despite her enduring sweet tooth. She acknowledged her sugar dependency, stating, “I couldn’t resist sweets. Sugar was my go-to for any emotion; it was my comfort. However, I didn’t want to jeopardize my life.”

Having experimented with various diets and gym memberships without success, Kristy made a pivotal decision in October 2017. She bid farewell to sugary treats, fast food, and processed snacks, opting for homemade meals instead. Her new diet includes peanut butter oatmeal cookies or eggs for breakfast, a substantial salad with protein for lunch, and a protein-rich dinner with roasted vegetables.

To satisfy any lingering sweet cravings, Kristy now turns to fruits as her primary source of sweetness. She mentioned, “I’ve completely cut out sugar, sweeteners, and artificial additives. I incorporate bananas and sweet potatoes in my meals for natural sweetness.”

Now seven years sugar-free, Kristy revels in her healthier lifestyle and present state of mind. Previously spending large sums weekly on satisfying her sugar cravings, she has successfully transitioned to wearing a UK size 16 by focusing on whole, homemade foods. She emphasized the disappearance of her cravings and the newfound appreciation for real, unprocessed foods.

In sharing her journey, Kristy highlighted the addictive nature of sugar and the challenges in overcoming its allure. She stressed the importance of surrendering to a healthy eating approach that nourishes the body and mind, asserting that the perceived restrictions of a sugar-free lifestyle are far less limiting than the constraints of excess weight and food obsession.
