Vienna Airport in Austria also faced temporary closure because of an icy runway. The closure affected flights to and from Vienna, leading to expected disruptions.

Bratislava Airport in Slovakia briefly closed in the morning but reopened later with ongoing delays. Václav Havel Airport in Prague reported limited operations due to freezing rain, resulting in flight delays throughout the day. The airport gradually increased permitted arrivals to ensure safety and operational readiness.

Despite eventual restoration of normal operations, Václav Havel Airport Prague anticipates ongoing flight delays. The airport canceled nine arrivals and departures due to the emergency situation. The current delays are significant, with expectations for continued disruptions throughout the day.

A weather system moving through central and eastern Europe has brought snow and freezing rain, causing widespread icy conditions and disruptions. The Sky News weather team predicts further travel disruptions in Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania due to icy conditions.

This incident follows Storm Goretit causing chaos in the UK, leading to airport closures and flight cancellations. British Airways was forced to cancel numerous flights at Heathrow Airport. Additionally, extreme cold in northern Finland led to flight cancellations, stranding thousands of tourists due to challenging de-icing conditions at Kittilä Airport.
