As much of the UK anticipates warm weather this weekend, Freeview users may face challenges due to the high-pressure system accompanying the sunshine.

Television signals are known to struggle in these conditions, potentially disrupting viewing experiences in the coming days. The BBC has highlighted that high pressure can lead to weakened reception and signal interference issues.

The BBC explained, “High pressure is not always easy to detect and can occur regardless of the season. It can result in two main problems: reduced signal strength from local transmitters being elevated higher and interference from distant transmitters affecting reception.”

These warm conditions and high-pressure system are forecasted to persist until Monday, leading Freeview to issue important guidance for its vast audience.

Freeview has alerted viewers, stating, “Certain regions in the UK may experience TV reception disruptions from Friday, April 24, to Sunday, April 26, 2026, due to the impact of high pressure on Freeview signals.

“It is recommended not to retune your TV during this period as reception should normalize once the high-pressure conditions diminish.”

While such weather-related disruptions occur periodically, there are alternative ways to continue enjoying favorite programs.

For those with newer smart TVs offering internet connectivity, switching to Freeview Play for online live or on-demand viewing is an option instead of relying on aerial signals.

Freeview has also mentioned that internet-connected TVs with channel apps can access services like BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, and 5.

Another alternative is Freely, a streaming platform supported by the same group behind Freeview and Freesat. Freely delivers channels via broadband, unaffected by weather, offering over 50 live and on-demand channels, along with features like pausing live TV and personalized recommendations.
