Anthony Joshua’s uncle has stated that the former world champion has communicated his intention to retire after a tragic car accident that claimed the lives of two close friends. The incident occurred when Joshua was a passenger in a Lexus SUV that collided with a stationary truck on a major expressway near Lagos, Nigeria. The victims, Sina Ghami and Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele, were mourned at a funeral held at a London mosque.

In a poignant Instagram post captioned ‘My Brothers Keeper,’ Joshua was seen with family members before attending the funeral. Reports suggest that Joshua has privately expressed his decision to retire from boxing, citing emotional strain on his family during his fights.

Despite initial reports in Nigeria, Joshua has not yet made a final decision on his future. The driver of the car, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged over the crash, facing allegations of dangerous driving and negligence. Joshua, after receiving medical treatment following the accident, returned to the UK.

Following his recent victory over Jake Paul, Joshua had been in Nigeria for a break before the accident occurred. Plans for a future fight with Tyson Fury are now uncertain due to the tragic events. As the boxing world awaits Joshua’s decision, his impressive career journey from Olympic success to heavyweight dominance is remembered, including iconic victories and setbacks in the ring.
