A cautionary alert has been issued for individuals who made purchases on Amazon in March regarding a deceptive new scam falsely asserting a “product recall” notice. The concerning text message, targeting UK phones, initiates with a notification stating, “Amazon Product Recall Notice.”
The message proceeds to promise a full refund to recipients and urges them to click on a provided link to log in to their Amazon accounts. Furthermore, it stresses the immediate cessation of product usage to heighten the sense of urgency.
The text, as viewed on Mirror Online, informs customers of a product recall affecting an item from their March 2026 order due to a design flaw posing a potential safety hazard. Despite the seemingly official tone, there is no actual recall. The communication is a phishing scheme intended to deceive anxious customers into divulging their login credentials, a risky endeavor.
Individuals directed to the fake Amazon sign-in page through the link are at risk of having their login details stolen by scammers. This could lead to unauthorized transactions, account lockouts, or exposure of personal information.
While this particular scam is recent, it is not the first instance of Amazon customers being targeted in such a manner. In February, the consumer group Which? raised a similar alarm after cybercriminals disseminated messages alleging product recalls for safety reasons, linking to counterfeit Amazon pages.
According to Amazon’s statement to Which?, scammers employ various tactics, including email, phone, or text requests for payments for fictitious items or services. Amazon advises vigilance against deceptive tactics that create a sense of urgency to manipulate consumers.
The company encourages consumers to report suspected scams to safeguard their accounts and assist in the apprehension of perpetrators. Amazon also advises caution regarding unfamiliar phone numbers, unexpected order or delivery messages, and suspicious links with misspellings or unusual formatting.
In summary, it is crucial for Amazon customers to remain vigilant against potential scams and to report any suspicious activity to protect their accounts and personal information.
