A young individual is in critical condition after a shark incident at a renowned beach. The boy, approximately 13 years old, was reportedly leaping off rocks near Shark Beach in Sydney, Australia, when the shark attack occurred. Authorities were alerted to the situation around 4:20 pm on Sunday.
According to New South Wales Police, emergency services responded to reports of a shark bite at Hermitage Foreshore Walk, Steele Point Road, Vaucluse, near Shark Beach. The boy was swiftly rescued from the water by Marine Area Command and Eastern Suburbs Police shortly after the emergency call was made.
The Water Police officer administered initial aid, including applying medical tourniquets for severe leg injuries, before the boy was transferred to Rose Bay wharf for further medical attention by NSW Ambulance Paramedics. Multiple resources, including an intensive care paramedic, aeromedical teams, and a helicopter, were involved in the response effort.
The injured teenager was then transported to Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick in critical condition due to the severe injuries to both legs. Shark Beach, situated in the upscale suburb of Vaucluse in Sydney, is known for its netted swimming area and rare incidents of shark encounters in the surrounding ocean.
Following the incident, Shark Beach has been closed to the public, and swimmers in Sydney are advised to refrain from entering the water as a precautionary measure.
