The Ottawa Rapid have named Carmelina Moscato, a former Canadian national team defender, as their new head coach for the upcoming season. Moscato, a Canada Soccer Hall of Famer known for her illustrious playing career that included three Women’s World Cups and a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics, brings a wealth of experience to the role. She has previously coached in Denmark, Mexico, and most recently in Saudi Arabia.
Moscato has signed a two-season deal with the Rapid and will begin working with the team immediately to prepare for the upcoming season, focusing on areas such as recruitment. Team CEO Thomas Gilbert praised Moscato’s leadership qualities, coaching expertise, technical knowledge, and her deep understanding of Canadian soccer.
Expressing her excitement for the new role, Moscato stated, “The Rapid have made significant progress in a short period of time. I am eager to continue building on this foundation and creating an environment where players can excel, grow, and compete at the highest level.”
Currently leading the Northern Super League standings with 10 wins in 15 matches, Ottawa has been in impressive form, with their last defeat dating back to late May. The Rapid’s next match will take place in Calgary at 4 p.m. on Saturday, and fans can watch the game live on CBC Gem.
