Novak Djokovic light-heartedly mentioned that he still has many years ahead to achieve his goal of securing a 25th Grand Slam singles title, following his defeat to Carlos Alcaraz in the Australian Open final. In a hard-fought match, Djokovic succumbed 2-6 6-2 6-3 7-5 to Alcaraz, who made history by becoming the youngest man to conquer all four Majors at the age of 22.

The 38-year-old Djokovic aimed to be the first player to reach 25 singles titles but was once again thwarted by Alcaraz, who had previously denied him in the 2024 Wimbledon final. Alcaraz surpassed Rafael Nadal’s record as the youngest man to complete the career Grand Slam, a fact Djokovic emphasized in his post-match speech in Melbourne.

Djokovic congratulated Alcaraz on his exceptional performance, hailing it as historic and legendary. He wished the young champion success in his career and humorously remarked on the potential for future encounters over the next decade.

With Alcaraz’s triumph at the Australian Open, the last nine men’s Grand Slam singles titles across various tournaments have been claimed by either Spanish players or Jannik Sinner. Alcaraz now boasts seven Major titles, while Sinner holds four.

Although Djokovic’s era of dominance seems to be waning, highlighted by his last Major win at the 2023 US Open, he remains resolute in his pursuit of a 25th title. Expressing gratitude to his team for their unwavering support, Djokovic acknowledged the challenges he faced and the fans’ encouragement throughout his career.

Alcaraz, in his speech, paid tribute to Djokovic for his inspiring dedication and hard work, emphasizing the impact the Serbian has had not only on tennis players but on athletes worldwide, including himself. The young champion expressed his admiration for Djokovic’s game and the privilege of competing alongside him.
