The family’s attorney claims that a bar worker, believed to have unintentionally caused the fatal New Year fire in Switzerland, received no safety training before the incident. Identified as Cyane Panine, the 24-year-old was one of 40 victims who perished in the blaze, allegedly unaware of the fire hazard posed by the ignited ceiling.

Authorities have leveled accusations against Jacques and Jessica Moretti, owners of Le Constellation bar, for various charges including manslaughter and negligence-related offenses. Alongside the fatalities, 116 individuals sustained injuries during the fire at the Crans-Montana Alpine ski resort.

According to Sophie Haenni, the legal representative of Panine’s family, the bar worker was not originally assigned to serve tables on the night of the incident but was directed downstairs due to high demand, without being informed of safety risks or receiving proper training.

Haenni emphasized that adherence to safety standards and necessary inspections could have prevented the casualties, labeling Panine as an unfortunate victim of the circumstances.

The lawyer’s statement on behalf of Panine’s family highlighted her discontent with the working conditions and alleged lack of empathy and understanding from the employers regarding her workload.

Following the incident, Jessica Moretti faced a travel ban as an alternative to pre-trial detention, expressing remorse for the tragic event, while Jacques Moretti is in custody pending further investigation. Initial reports suggest that the fire was triggered by sparklers igniting the soundproof foam lining the ceiling.
