EDF has launched a promotion that offers customers complimentary electricity on Sundays in exchange for reducing their electricity usage during peak hours on weekdays. The initiative, called the Sunday Saver challenge, is back for February. Participants are required to shift their electricity consumption away from peak hours, which are typically between 4pm and 7pm on weekdays.
Customers who successfully reduce their weekday peak consumption will receive between four and 16 hours of free electricity on the following Sunday. EDF customers with smart meters can enroll in the program until February 1st. The designated Sundays for free electricity in February and March are the 15th, 22nd, and the 1st and 8th, respectively.
According to EDF, more than 260,000 households have benefited from over 17 million free hours of electricity through the Sunday Saver program. The company has credited £5.2 million onto customers’ bills as a result of the initiative.
During the Christmas period, over 100,000 customers enjoyed eight hours of free electricity, with EDF providing a total of 910,536 free hours of electricity to households. Natasha Shields from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, shared her positive experience, stating that the Sunday Saver challenge has helped her family cope with rising living costs.
Jon Perks, EDF’s Sales & Marketing Director, highlighted the program’s benefits during peak winter billing periods, emphasizing how it helps customers save on costs and reduce their carbon footprint. Customers can monitor their electricity usage and savings through EDF’s Energy Hub, promoting energy efficiency and sustainability.
Additionally, EDF is offering a £50 credit to new and existing customers who sign up for any of its electric vehicle (EV) tariffs within the next month. The EV tariffs, including GoElectric, Pod Point EV Exclusive, Evolve, and Pod Point Plug & Power, provide five hours of cheaper electricity every night between 12 am and 5 am for both home and car charging.
Customers can track their Sunday Saver progress through the Energy Hub via MyAccount, ensuring transparency and personalized insights into their energy consumption habits. This initiative aligns with EDF’s commitment to promoting energy efficiency and sustainability while providing practical cost-saving solutions for customers.
