A man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder of his daughter, Ryan al Najjar, who was found bound and gagged in a pond a month after her 18th birthday. The father, Khaled al Najjar, claimed that Ryan was becoming too westernized, which led to her tragic death. Ryan’s mother and father had sought asylum in the Netherlands to escape the conflict in Syria, but years later, Ryan was killed due to her lifestyle choices that her father disapproved of.

Ryan’s body was discovered wrapped in duct tape in shallow water, with traces of her father’s DNA found on the tape. Chilling evidence suggested that Ryan was alive when thrown into the water, and her father remorselessly admitted that he should have buried her. During the trial, it was revealed that Ryan’s brothers, Muhanad and Muhamad, were also involved in driving her to the location where she was killed.

Khaled fled to Syria after the murder and received a 30-year sentence in absentia, while Ryan’s brothers were convicted for their role and sentenced to 20 years. Despite appearing integrated, the family faced internal conflicts, with Ryan’s behavior and clothing causing tension. Allegations of abuse and violence by the father surfaced, with family members describing him as oppressive and unjust.

Ryan’s rebellion against her father’s strict rules, including her desire to socialize and make TikTok videos, further strained their relationship. Family members recounted a history of fear and tension due to the father’s temperamental and violent behavior. Ryan’s tragic death shed light on the family’s tumultuous dynamics and the consequences of strict cultural beliefs conflicting with individual freedoms.
