Glenn McGrath, a cricketing icon from Australia, has been removed as a commentator by host broadcaster ABC due to his association with a betting company. McGrath, renowned as one of the finest fast bowlers in history, has been a familiar presence at the Ashes tournaments in recent times.

With 563 wickets in 124 Test matches for the Australian team, the 55-year-old McGrath was a formidable opponent for England in the Ashes series, securing victory in six series. Despite his ongoing role on the BBC Test Match Special, McGrath will no longer serve as a pundit and commentator for ABC. Initially featured in their promotional material, McGrath’s involvement has been terminated just before the series.

In a statement to The Guardian, ABC announced the mutual decision with McGrath for this Ashes season. The network expressed openness to collaborating with him in the future while confirming the leadership of their commentary team for the upcoming Perth Test.

The decision to drop McGrath was influenced by his upcoming partnership with Bet365, a major betting company. This move mirrors ABC’s past decision to part ways with former Australian cricketer Mitchell Johnson under similar circumstances.

McGrath’s presence will remain prominent in the BBC’s Ashes coverage, which includes live radio commentary and highlights programs. Collaborating with renowned names like Jonathan Agnew, Michael Vaughan, and others, McGrath is set to contribute significantly to the broadcast Down Under.

In a typical confident manner, McGrath has predicted a 5-0 victory for the home team in the upcoming series against England. England’s recent struggles in the Ashes and Australia’s strong bowling lineup have bolstered his conviction in the impending outcome.
