Two young men, described as “idiots,” caused a serious accident that left a teenage girl critically injured while racing each other at a speed of 90mph, according to court testimony. Harrison Taylor, aged 19, and his brother Henry, aged 21, were engaged in a high-speed race on the Sandbanks peninsula in Poole, Dorset, during the early hours of Boxing Day in 2023. Gifted with powerful vehicles following their parents’ separation, Harrison was driving a Mercedes A200, and Henry was behind the wheel of a BMW 135i.

As Harrison accelerated recklessly, he lost control of the Mercedes on a bend, crashing into a gatepost of a luxurious mansion. Subsequently, the BMW collided with the Mercedes, propelling it into a garden wall. Mia Savage, a passenger in the Mercedes, suffered severe injuries and had to be extricated from the wreckage as her mother, who had rushed to the scene, looked on. Mia, then 17 years old, sustained life-altering injuries including multiple fractures, internal bleeding, and organ damage. She underwent extensive surgery, spent time in a coma, and faced a prolonged recovery period.

Due to her injuries, Mia missed out on a sports scholarship and experienced academic setbacks, impacting her university plans. The Taylor brothers admitted to causing serious injury by dangerous driving and appeared in court where they received suspended sentences and driving bans. Despite expressing disappointment with the outcome, Mia’s mother criticized the leniency shown to the brothers given the devastating impact on her daughter’s life.

The court learned that the Taylor brothers and their friends had been socializing before deciding to race their cars around Sandbanks. The incident highlighted the dangers of speeding and reckless driving, underscoring the need for responsible behavior on the road. The judge condemned the brothers’ actions, emphasizing the profound consequences of their irresponsible behavior.
