An atrocious incident unfolded as a malevolent couple ruthlessly murdered and dismembered their housemates using meat cleavers in a chilling assault.

Jeffrey Mackey, Alexis Nieves, and their cohort Steven Brown were convicted and imprisoned for the fatal 2024 assault on Malcom Brown, aged 53, and Donna Conneely, aged 59. The victims were brutally stabbed upon entering their residence on February 27, 2024, with Nieves striking Conneely’s head with a meat tenderizer before stabbing her in Amityville, New York. Mackey proceeded to stab Malcolm in the neck and torso. The heinous crime was exposed after a student stumbled upon a severed left arm in a park just two days later.

Law enforcement authorities uncovered a second male arm in close proximity to the initial discovery, along with a female head, torso, arm, and some portions of female legs in Babylon Village park.

Further human remains were unearthed at two separate locations on March 5, 2024, leading to the identification of Malcolm and Donna as the victims. Police visited the residence where the couple resided with Malcolm, Conneely, Brown, and his partner Amanda Wallace.

Upon investigation, two meat cleavers and a large kitchen knife were found, along with blood traces in various areas within the residence. Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney previously reported that “The defendants allegedly dismembered the victims’ bodies in the bathroom of the home.” Steven and Wallace were implicated in assisting in the dismemberment and disposal of the victims’ remains, as per a police statement.

Mackey, aged 40, Nieves, aged 35, and Brown, who was Malcolm’s relative, all admitted guilt when charged in April 2024. Mackey and Nieves received reduced sentences as part of a plea bargain, citing mistreatment by their victims as per People magazine.

Mackey’s lawyer, speaking to NBC 4, stated, “Jeffrey Mackey and his spouse endured physical, emotional, and financial abuse from the victims, motivating these crimes.”

In court proceedings, Mackey pled guilty to two counts of second-degree murder on Tuesday, resulting in a 22-year prison sentence. Nieves, his partner, received an 11-year prison term for a misdemeanor, while Steven Brown was handed a five-year sentence for conspiracy.

Wallace confessed to concealing a human corpse and was sentenced to a maximum of two years behind bars in November.

During the trial, Mackey expressed remorse, saying, “I deeply regret the events that transpired. I wish they were still alive. I wish I had never crossed paths with them. I extend my apologies to their families, as I wish this tragedy had never occurred.”

However, Malcolm’s family criticized the sentencing as lenient, stating, “A five-year sentence for our cousin, Steven Brown, seems inadequate for his involvement in the murder, dismemberment, and disposal of two individuals. It is unacceptable that such heinous acts result in such minimal repercussions.”
