A village in Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region faced tragedy on Tuesday, with 10 people losing their lives in a Russian missile strike, according to Ukrainian authorities. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack on the bustling intersection in Pechenihy, Kharkiv, emphasizing that the location was in a civilian area surrounded by residential buildings. The devastating aftermath included a destroyed building, cars engulfed in flames, and emergency personnel evacuating injured individuals on stretchers.
Zelenskyy vowed retaliation against the Russian assault, as the governor of the region, Oleh Syniehubov, reported that 17 people sustained injuries in the incident. The strike inflicted damage on 10 private buildings, a café, a post office, a store, and at least seven vehicles in the village.
The use of two small Banderol cruise missiles by Russia in the attack was disclosed by Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office. Meanwhile, a local official revealed that the central part of the village, housing the café, post office, and shops, bore the brunt of the strikes.
In a significant offensive move, Ukraine launched 620 drones towards Moscow and its environs in the early hours of Tuesday, marking one of Kyiv’s most extensive air assaults on the region. Russian forces managed to intercept and down 180 drones over Moscow, with Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirming the emergence of crash sites without specifying casualties or property damage.
The drones targeted various facilities, including a warehouse belonging to the Russian e-commerce company Wildberries near Moscow. While Wildberries reported minor damage due to drone debris hitting a warehouse wall, other Russian-controlled regions, such as Crimea, also experienced intense attacks. Krymenergo, the primary power supplier in Crimea, noted that southern districts were subjected to Ukrainian drone assaults, resulting in power disruptions in several settlements.
Russia issued a warning to Britain regarding the provision of drones to Ukraine for attacks on Russian territory, cautioning that London would face repercussions for its involvement in the conflict. The Russian embassy in London responded to reports of British-made drones being utilized for strikes against Russia, emphasizing that deeper engagement in the conflict would escalate consequences for the UK.
The British Defence Ministry refrained from confirming the use of British drones in the attacks, reiterating the UK’s commitment to supporting Ukraine in defending against Russia’s aggression. In a show of solidarity, Britain pledged to supply 150,000 drones to Ukraine by the end of 2026 as part of a substantial funding package.
