Storm Goretti is expected to bring powerful winds and snow on Thursday, potentially causing significant disruption and posing a threat to life.

The Met Office has issued an amber wind alert for tomorrow. The Isles of Scilly and Cornwall may experience peak gusts of 80-90 mph, subject to the storm’s path. Central England and Wales are under a second amber alert, with some areas facing up to 30cm of snow until Friday morning.

Flying debris could cause injuries and pose a risk to life in the south-west. Buildings may sustain damage, and power outages are likely, affecting mobile phone coverage. Travel is anticipated to be severely impacted, leading to delays and cancellations across various transportation modes.

Coastal regions are at risk of large waves, potentially resulting in beach material reaching roads and properties. Residents are advised to exercise caution and stay updated on the latest developments.

The most intense winds from Storm Goretti are projected to affect northern France, where the storm was named by Meteo France, but Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly will also feel its impact.

Individuals are urged to remain indoors during the storm. Those venturing outside should avoid areas near buildings and trees. Secure loose items in gardens ahead of the high winds to prevent damage or accidents.

Travelers are advised to take precautions, such as driving slowly, maintaining distance from other vehicles, and being vigilant while overtaking. Ensure vehicles are winter-ready and stay informed through reliable sources for live travel updates.

As Britain faces heavy snow due to a prolonged Arctic chill, avalanche alerts have been issued in six regions of Scotland, with a major incident declared in Aberdeenshire. Met Office snow and ice warnings are in effect nationwide, leading to expected disruptions in road, rail, and air travel.
