Donald Trump has issued a stern warning urging Minnesotans to prepare for a “day of retribution.” Despite widespread criticism of ICE’s tactics in Minnesota, the US President has reinforced his decision to deploy more agents to the state, specifically targeting Somali Americans, the majority of whom are US citizens.
Using his Truth Social platform, Trump alleged that Minnesota is plagued by convicted criminals, drug dealers, rapists, and other dangerous individuals, questioning the community’s tolerance for such elements. He defended ICE’s actions, dismissing the mounting protests against the agency.
Contrary to Trump’s claims, the Somali American community in Minnesota, where about 95% are US citizens through naturalization or birth, has become a focal point for ICE operations. Most Somali heritage individuals, including the 5,800 non-citizens, entered the country legally, with only a small fraction being undocumented migrants.
Despite reports of about 3,000 ICE agents being sent to Minnesota by the Trump administration, the ratio of agents to potential deportees remains significantly high. Trump boasted about crime reduction in other cities due to ICE actions, highlighting his belief in the effectiveness of such measures.
In a final ominous message, Trump assured the people of Minnesota that a “day of reckoning and retribution” is imminent.
