The UK government is not sympathetic towards the potential fall of the Iranian regime, as indicated by a government official. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander criticized Iran, labeling it as a hostile state aligned with Russia. With millions of Iranians protesting for regime change, the situation has turned violent, leading to the loss of at least 116 lives.

Alexander emphasized that the UK has always viewed Iran as a security threat in the Middle East and globally due to its repressive regime. She stressed the need to address the ongoing violence in Iran as a top priority.

Describing Iran as a destabilizing force, Alexander mentioned its collaboration with Vladimir Putin to evade sanctions through oil transportation. When asked if the UK would mourn the downfall of the Iranian government, she suggested a similar sentiment would be expressed.

The Labour representative expressed the UK’s desire for a peaceful transition of power in case of a regime change, emphasizing the importance of fundamental freedoms and democratic values for the Iranian people.

Amid escalating tensions, Iran’s parliament speaker warned that the US and Israel could be targets if America takes military action against the Islamic Republic. President Donald Trump’s support for Iranian protesters has further intensified the situation, with reports suggesting military options have been considered but no decision made.

Regarding foreign policy and military plans, Alexander refrained from commenting but emphasized monitoring the situation closely and urging Iranian authorities to protect citizens’ lives and freedoms while showing restraint in responding to protests.

The US state department issued a warning not to underestimate President Trump’s resolve, highlighting the seriousness of his statements. The decision to engage in war would ultimately lie with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, while the US military remains prepared in the region to defend its interests and allies.
