Russia has been relentlessly targeting Ukrainian civilians in an attempt to demoralize them by using explosive drones to disrupt heating systems during freezing temperatures. Despite this cruel tactic, it has not significantly aided Russia’s military campaign. Progress in the eastern frontline near Borova, in the Kostyantynivka-Druzhkivka area, has been slow, but Ukrainian troops have recently made notable advancements in the war-torn region of Zaporizhzhia.

A significant number of drones, predominantly Iranian-designed Shahed weapons, were directed towards this area, where Ukraine has been actively disrupting Vladimir Putin’s financial resources that fuel the ongoing conflict. Today, Kyiv targeted the large-scale Slavyansk-na-Kubani oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar region, resulting in substantial fires, further diminishing Moscow’s war efforts while Russia continues its attacks on civilians.

Peace talks involving Ukrainian, US, and Russian military and diplomatic representatives have been ongoing in Abu Dhabi for several days. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the talks as “constructive,” indicating that a peacetime security agreement with the US for Ukraine is ready to be signed.

Meanwhile, Putin has reiterated Russia’s intention to forcefully take control of all of Ukraine’s Donbas region, of which Russian forces currently occupy 90%. The “Anchorage formula” refers to an alleged agreement between Trump and Putin, which Russia claims impacts the territorial dispute with Ukraine. Zelensky has been cautiously optimistic about the peace talks, knowing the challenges posed by Russia’s military advances and hoping for a breakthrough or a diversion of Russian attention elsewhere.

Ukraine has been strategically targeting Putin’s energy exports to weaken his position while navigating a complex geopolitical landscape. With escalating tensions in various regions, including US-Iran relations and China-Taiwan disputes, Ukraine relies on European support as it faces increasing challenges. Despite Putin’s plans to mobilize additional troops, Ukrainian forces remain resilient, acknowledging the uncertainties and maintaining a cautious relationship with Trump.
