Schools across Britain are closing early in anticipation of Storm Goretti’s arrival. The storm, named by Meteo France, is expected to bring various hazards, including up to 30cm of snow in parts of England and Wales.

Weather warnings have been issued nationwide for snow, wind, rain, and ice, with disruptions in travel and power outages foreseen. Particularly in the South West, where winds could reach 100mph, schools are taking precautionary measures, according to reports from Cornwall Live.

A rapid drop in temperatures is underway, with a cold snap extending into the weekend, leading to blizzard conditions in parts of England, Wales, and Scotland.

Met Office’s chief forecaster, Neil Armstrong, highlighted the multi-hazard nature of Storm Goretti, emphasizing significant impacts from snow in Wales and the Midlands, along with strong winds in the far South West. An amber warning has been issued for Thursday night into Friday morning, urging residents in affected areas to stay updated on forecasts and local authority messages.

The Met Office warns of travel disruptions on roads, in the air, and on public transportation services, as well as risks of power cuts and potential community isolations. Snow warnings cover 96 areas today, with substantial snowfall expected in England and Wales, leading to the closure of over 1,000 schools earlier this week.
