Former US President Donald Trump criticized UK opposition leader Keir Starmer’s move to enhance relations with China, labeling it as “very dangerous.” Starmer recently engaged in discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping, agreeing to strengthen their partnership. During a media event, Trump expressed concerns over the UK’s business dealings with China and warned Canada against similar actions, citing China’s negative impact on Canada’s economy.

In a separate development, Trump threatened Canada with hefty tariffs, specifically targeting aircraft sales, due to disagreements over aircraft certification. This tariff threat follows Starmer’s pledge to establish a more sophisticated relationship with China, including agreements on visa-free travel and potential visits between the UK and China.

Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister’s meeting with President Xi in Beijing was marked by cordial discussions on various topics, including football and Shakespeare. Despite the warm atmosphere, the Prime Minister raised sensitive issues such as the imprisonment of pro-democracy activist Jimmy Lai and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The visit aimed to mend strained relations between the UK and China, marred by disputes over espionage, human rights, and national security.

President Xi emphasized the importance of collaboration between Britain and China for global peace and stability amidst turbulent times. These efforts signify a mutual interest in fostering stronger diplomatic ties between the two nations.
