The union representing cabin crew at WestJet has disclosed specifics of the tentative agreement reached with the Calgary-based airline following a brief strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) announced that the deal entails an increase of over 18% in wages spread across three years, along with a new “duty period premium” to compensate for ground duties. Additionally, the agreement includes expanded leave time, higher allowances for food and uniforms, and other benefits.
Due to the looming strike by 4,400 flight attendants, WestJet was forced to ground all its flights across much of Canada during a busy holiday weekend. However, a tentative agreement was reached between the airline and the union early Monday, leading to a gradual return to normal operations for WestJet.
Cabin crew members are scheduled to vote on the agreement in the upcoming weeks, marking a significant step towards resolving the recent labor dispute.
