The National Health Service (NHS) has provided guidance on preventing the spread of the flu during the winter season. The flu, or influenza, is a highly contagious viral infection affecting the respiratory system.

Symptoms of the flu include sudden fever, body aches, headache, dry cough, and extreme fatigue, distinguishing it from a common cold. The virus can survive on hands and surfaces for up to 24 hours.

Recent data reveals that the number of flu patients hospitalized in England last week reached 2,924, marking a nine percent increase from the previous week.

To mitigate the risk of contracting or transmitting the virus, it is crucial to adhere to preventive measures. The NHS emphasizes the importance of hand hygiene, recommending frequent handwashing with warm water and soap to reduce the likelihood of infection.

Additionally, eligible individuals are encouraged to receive the winter flu vaccine, especially those at high risk of severe illness. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) also advises precautions such as practicing good respiratory hygiene.

For more information on the flu vaccine, visit the NHS website.
